This isn’t just any calculator, it is the chance we’ve been waiting for: information presented in cool graphs n stuff.

Welcome to the internet, Wolfram

So…. What can you do with this thing? Sure, add ‘n subtract, but why stop there? Physics, Engineering, Dates & Times, Financial stuff, and more. You name it and it’s got it, or… it -will- have it eventually, it’s still in prefab mode apparently. So let’s test her out:

Meet ‘Ida,’ the big ambiguous break our institutionally brainwashed minds have been waiting for. It sorta looks like a monkey, it sorta looks like a lemur and I think this is call for slamming the news with more propaganda cause we don’t have anything better to do.

Okay, even if evolution, as evolutionists urge, is simply an alteration and adaptation of genetics over time due to stress from the environment, we have to say: we’re done evolving. Also, one may have to deduce backwards-evolution is explicitly as much of a possibility as forward-evolution is. Without stress on our spoiled American lives, diabetes from a sedentary lifestyle seems to be more of a trend than growing eyes on the back of our head or those laser-fingers we’ve always dreamed of having. So if we are ‘done,’ have we really arrived to our most optimal state? It is mainstream idealists who suggest our ‘recent’ descendents in a sort of simplistic, barbaric and animalistic light, though praise our current state of comeuppance as though we’ve taken our place as masters of the universe. Have we really grown über so quickly, especially with a decrease in environmental stress? Humanism is scary; sounds more like Excusism. Even without any greater supposition than an accidental existance, evolution as a theory seems like one of those things that will regardless come to a “well that was dumb” status when looking back through the annals of history and science.

“The world is veiled in darkness. The wind stops, the sea is wild, and the earth begins to rot. The people wait, their only hope, a prophecy…. “When the world is in darkness Four Warriors will come….” After a long journey four young warriors arrive, each holding an orb.”

The four warriors arrive in the town of Coneria. A fighter, a stalwart bastion of might, goes before the adventuring group to thwart evil with steel and shield. A thief: nimble in his dexterity, though not as brawny with the blade; he can avoid harm and escape from battle to live another day. A black mage, privy to the attacking magical arts, destroying his foes at whim, but he himself is physically vulnerable due to his fragile stature. A white mage, a benevolent magician whose healing words can help her group stand against the trials ahead of them. (wait, hold on, was this just the 100th post? yay us)

Shod with equipment to avail them in their journey, they seek the king who enlists them to seek and destroy the evil Garland, a kidnapper of the princess. After whetting their fighting spirit, the party of adventurers journey north to the evil dwelling of their nemesis. Past delves and valleys, past the rocky way and the deepest forests, trudging through swamp and field: the enemy’s castle appears: Temple of Chaos. A hard battle fought, and outnumbering him, Garland is slain, freeing the princess for the kingdom’s sake. In his arrogance and pride, he falls, underestimating the four friends. Princess saved, day is won, everybody’s happy and after this daunting feat, the titles screen appears for The Final Fantasy.

I think this is our first video game review or post so bask, this is only the beginning. For 1987, this was a crazy change of pace for Nintendo Entertainment System owners. No more running, jumping and chucking fireballs. (sorry, Mario), but now with Final Fantasy, health is a numerical value and blighting villains comes by way of ‘set and forget’ or in other words, tell your group your plan of attack and then watch them try their best at it on their own; less reflexes, more intellect; turn-based style. Gameplay here is a different animal: requires a little more planning than normal, but anyone can leave their Nintendo Entertainment System with a more adventurous attitude.

Graphics for 1987 were picturesque, though only 8-bit. Take a look yourself with some sweet-action screenshots…

They eventually re-released this game a few more times with better graphics, but we’re not reviewing those versions today. Pretty nifty pixels, uh?

Okay, how about some sound effects and music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7A3xpCStfs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTx5V8hVsbk

If I recall correctly, there are 4 channels of music; and then set to stereo making it 8-bits total. I can so jam out to this stuff, thanks, Nobuo Uematsu.

Story? Probably no more riveting than this post, however, it leads the player well to the next objective. It also leaves plenty of room for one’s imagination. This also leads to re-playability. After going through a few other games, you’ll want to come back from sheer nostalgia alone, but hey, why not turn new magical moments into magical memories. Top that all off with a buddy. Doing anything with other people that you know can make anything more enjoyable. And just when you thought this fantasy was final… they made a sequel. /facepalm

Basically, I have one question for you; though it may lead to others. When you see this image, take a moment and try to figure out if it was made by Christians (religious, etc) or by the secular. (non-religious, atheist, etc) I want to see your comment if you can, it’ll be fun, I promise!

Take this cartoon with a grain of salt, it is not mine, I wont reveal exactly where I got it and I have no idea myself where it actually came from or who made it. It’s just something I saw and found it a little thought provoking, one way or another. I have a pretty good idea what the true answer to today’s question is, but let’s take a gander first:

Okay, definitely has some sort of spiritual concentration in here, but the message might be misleading or ambiguous. Wow upper-left post is upper-left. One thing we can probably agree on is narrowing down who the audience is. If this is Christian-made, it should be very apparent that it is for other Christians; and why? It must be reminder that ‘appearances of evil’ aren’t conducive to the Christian life. However, if this is secular based, the audience might be believers, the faithless or both. A secular message to a Christian with a weak faith may falter at thinking it is fruitless because they may seem ineffectual. A secular message to an unbeliever may also see fruitlessness or no differentiation: thus relinquishing spirituality or even morality as an option. Or perhaps there’s some other answer.

Unless anyone has any brighter ideas, I’ll ante up with “It’s made by Christians to encourage and remind other Christians that appearing like the world (compromising) to attract them in is hypocritical.” This thing looks like it’s out of some youth Bible-study publication of some sort. Oh and “Jesus rave” is just terrible. Any thoughts are welcomed:

They’re wonderful beasts in God’s creation. How could this seemingly odd critter be? Well you’re about to find out, because this post is about platypuses(mozilla likes this spelling). Platypi, report in!

Despite naturecrazies and outback animal-wrastlers, this queer animal doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It would go find more if it could but it’s too busy a swimmin’ and a scroungin’ for some grub. This is where Zomgee comes in, we raise our (non-alchoholic) Fosters to you, Mr. Platypus. At this point you’re probably simply dumbfounded at this thing so lets break it down: it’s mammal, otter body and feet along with its beaver tail. Okay so far so good but where in the world does this beak/bill thing come from, whoa curve ball. Not to mention it lays external eggs, equipped! Also, the word on the street says they’ve got this spur thing near their hind feet that totally packs the only venom any mammal has today.

This is rather unruley, I mean, what gives. This seems like something crazy commin’ out of Spore. Apparently this is the only surviving mammal of its family/genus so these things apparently wern’t as sparse as they once were. Even after all that they keep they’re eyes closed in water, too timid for debris so they use their enhanced sense of feeling using bill-mode by swiping it across the body of water’s floor. Despite their eccentric exterior, they’re fierce and rather offensive, especially to their own kind during mating season to fend off cheapskate or lowlife platypi guys, (i know one, he owes me 20 Australian dollars, the jerk).

more gratuitous wikipedia-ripped images.

Emergence… Awakening… I see the light; the light is shining bright. I rise to see the day with the sun on my face. It is glorious. The way leads me to a place of water, refreshing. Showers wash away the sorrow of the past and bring me optimism for a better day. Nourishment, it yet even comes to me before I beckon it. Hands prepare and present feasts untold. I find it energizing yet restful, though my path guides me onward without my reserve. A window is before me; yet surrounded by companions possessing their own, mine is unique in that I even now reach through it to grasp the hands of those afar off. It is wondrous; nevertheless a door summons me, whispers to me to explore the foreign land.

Sports games prevailed this day. Madden, Fifa, Tiger Woods and many other options presented themselves, but a very casual gaming day led us to rest at a nominal hour. The Henry’s, a family not seen at least by me for quite sometime, were in town and graced us with their presence. Laura slam dunked with Alfredo shrimp and croissants and then Mr. Henry busted out his laptop to show us ensuing improvements on Camp Lamoka on Tom’s 46” television. A few people had the gumption enough to send and receive phone calls with me since I’ve been down here and I am more than glad to chat with you and tell you how much more awesome it is than wherever you are. I think Saturday, we may try the beach.

With eight days ahead of us, we spent the ride home from the airport mulling over “Were so gonna…” and a little “is Nancy Pelosi the house?” The place is HT’s crib in Fort Lauderdale, plenty of room for gaming which is exactly what we did. For at least six hours, we introduced new characters to Lord of the Rings Online, marking the first time SuperStretch entered Middle-Earth. Elves are effeminate. Grogginess ensued and overpowered even in lieu of dew (minus OhYo via SoBe from Laura).

Shortpost is short however quantity prevails in this C-c-c-c-combo breaker! In other words, there are more to show on the way so stay tuned…

Okay either there’s a demand for Zepuka or there’s a demand for more music posts. Probably both, but finding out these sorts of things will take time and effort we simply don’t have. So let’s just bank on it and see if it works! I mean seriously, what do we have to lose?

Alright, say it’s the 1600′s and you live within the British Kingdom. Things are pretty cool; you’re still kicking even though the Black Death (combo x2) is rampaging and you hit mid-life crisis around 20 years of age. Not too shabby; have to say it’s a step up from barbarism. Why, feudalism is the best thing since sliced bread! (or does sliced bread come later?) So what’s music to you? You may hear the occasional lute, lyre or viol pluck a note or maybe a nice clicky harpsichord, but it should be safe to say iPods or personal orchestras aren’t for the common folk. At any rate, your queen dies. Matriarchal leadership can be harsh, yet it was all you had ever known for your whole short lifetime.

In comes Henry Purcell to baroque and roll! Queen Mary II has her funeral all ready and set up while Purcell busts out what he’s been working on for the past few years: A full anthem of processional themes. Dour perhaps, but surprisingly sheds light on the myriad of emotions many may have had back in the day. Listen to this excerpt below and you might sense something more than just the sadness caused by loss of a friend, especially when you hope on that separation to be temporary.

Sure, a casual listener may capture the words as vain repetition, but what the singers might be crying for could sway that presumption. The psalm it is quoting tells of a seeker of God out of necessity, though being in a temporal state; not quite where they will be in the future, striving to keep faith in the present. On a more personal level, they might be shouting thanksgiving to God for allowing them to live in the same world and time as the one they’ve just let go. They could be begging God to give them strength even now in an effort to take full advantage of how their loved one encouraged them to be faithful.

Seems this version has five singing parts, but may have had more on the original performance. If the psalm wasn’t enough, the notes themselves appear to share a certain emotion: a quintessential theme in Christianity. The ebb and flow of major and minor chords shingling one another sparks the dichotomy between sadness and blessing, man’s sin and God’s righteousness, and Jesus’ death and resurrection. Can goodly things be recognized aptly without evil to contrast? Can choosing God be any more sincere when given free will on a sin-cursed Earth? Is God revealing more love when we are humbled so low that He reaches deeper to pull us up?

There isn’t much I can say to put justice to this piece, but I thought it was worth the share even if tastes clash. For the record, I’d take these two minutes and change over anything written in the past seventy-five years. Enjoy. (Thanks, Thomas)

Baby don’t hurt me… Don’t hurt me… No more. *head bob*

I heard this other song at work along the lines of “I may not know what love is, but I know what love ain’t” or something (/shudder at the thought of country music). The process of elimination is bland but apt. Let us delve into what people think what love is and why they’re so delusional.

(Preface: We have to assume the question refers to the love for ones spouse or spouse-to-be and appropriate mixture and order of agape, philos and eros.)

It’s hard to tell if Valentine was a saint, especially when there were multiple Valentines. Nevertheless, being martyrs, they traded a nominal, unknown yet inevitable death for a premature and agonizing execution all to share their unquenchable passion for their cause. The Catholic Church chose a week to celebrate (and otherwise uplift) the Valens (or ‘the worthy’) and their sacrifices (somehow more-so than the actual cause they died for). This week happened to encompass a separate pagan day worshiping lust, uncontrolled sexuality and fertility. Paganism abounds eventually and “romance” becomes the theme again. Nothing says “I love you” like “Be my Valentine and die a slow and painful death for my causes” especially when the cause is an inordinate craving for impurity.

This is funny, because the whole point of sticking ‘martyr-worship-day’ there in the first place was to get rid of the romantic theme. The root-word in romance here is -Roman- in that it is to say “love as the Romans did.” How did they love? Similar to every other act or emotion: proudly overstated with delusions of grandeur. Romanticism is art, however an exaggeration of expression to the point of inaccuracy; an illusion. Expressing love in embellishment not only precludes honesty, but discounts the intentions entirely. One who describes a love that is so real to them that it actually seems unreal to them has made their emotions so lofty that it is in fact unreal, indefinable at the very least and therefore inexpressible. Romance also celebrates expression with word and deed. Though sometimes these are the only viable options, generating this energy outwardly primarily rather than from within (or Above) can be outright baseless. Nothing says “I love you” like “Isn’t this unrealistically better than I can even pretend it could be? Uh, I mean romantic?”

Courtly love is a little more recent but is still argued on how and for what purpose it originally held. It probably has since evolved (or devolved?) to its own system (I know courting is actually different, but not necessarily mutually exclusive to the same problems), but let’s check out the ye-olde style courting, AKA yon knightly or yon not-so-knightly trying to pick up some yon chicks. According to Barbara Tuchman, courting consisted of variable stages (plus my parenthetical commentary):

Attraction to the lady, usually via eyes/glance (Okay nothing wrong with being physically attracted to someone, but kind of vain in and of itself.)

Worship of the lady from afar (Apparently this guy’s either lustful, deifying a human being or just a plain creeper.)

Declaration of passionate devotion (devotion to what? Her body? Something between step 2 and 3 is definitely missing.)

Virtuous rejection by the lady (Well I don’t blame her, but even if everything was legit by this point, don’t you think this step should be at least optional & skip to the end? Turtle mating rituals comes to mind for some reason.)

Renewed wooing with oaths of virtue and eternal fealty (At least he doesn’t give up right away, but he still doesn’t have anything other than trying to convince someone to do something they already don’t want to commit to. Only thing worse would be her submission beyond this point (unless he miraculously turns sincere, doubtful), but, if this guy has to vow on virtue, he’s admitting he already struggles and has a reputation of failure in that area. Let your ayes be ayes and nays be nays!)

Moans of approaching death from unsatisfied desire [and other physical manifestations of lovesickness] (He’s reached desperation at this point and is exhausting all options before the next step which he doesn’t seem like he wants to bother to do. Beyond outright lies, having to convince someone to change their heart about oneself shouldn’t be harder than simply observing their honest countenance.)

Heroic deeds of valor which win the lady’s heart (Took him long enough, but shouldn’t he have done or want to do this already regardless of reward?)

Consummation of the secret love (Stupid girl gets it on with stupid guy, but hey, can’t blame them, it’s the Middle-Ages; we got the Black Death runnin’ around so I suppose a little procreation should be in order anyway.)

Endless adventures and subterfuges avoiding detection (wait, what? This whole thing was on the DL? Wow… I’m astounded; all that -and- they avoided the “he-said-she-said” business. Wait till the folks find out, oh they’re dead from the plague, okay…. Well, carry on then…)

Animalistic. Nothing says “I love you.” like “Your mind and emotional wellbeing are in the way of your body. Move them now, I’m horny; I’ll do anything, I’m desperate.”

What do these three ever-so-often-seen assumptions on how “Love should be” in our western society have in common? First off, they all compare themselves to passions someone else has had in the past. This assumes their love couldn’t get any better than that and is struggling to sustain that same level if it can ever get there. It also precludes that this level of passion is entirely reliant on the comparison and without it goes back to ‘realistic-mode’ which, to some, puniness outweighs sincerity. Nothing’s wrong with a little allegory and simile to accent an emotion, (“Our love is like a seed, it grows ‘n stuff” is somehow better than “My love for you is kinda like someone else’s love for some other person.”) Secondly, these three venues share an idea of ‘conditional love.’ It’s either someone else has to accept or do something for the inquirer or the inquirer has to subject the inquired ultimatums and requirements. Whatever happened to loving someone for who they are, instead for what they’ve done (sorry batman) or for who someone else is?

I have to say I’ve never seen a couple in a relationship, married or otherwise, that I’m impressed with. The only one I’ve heard of that comes close off the top of my head would have to be Adam and Eve, pre-fall. I know the Adam ‘knew’ Eve term has several meanings, but it shouldn’t. Whoever I might find, I want to know them in every way for who they are. Ugh, longpost is long. Not sure if I’ve said enough or too much, but there it is; a post on Friday, happy now?

Ninja Edit: Oh yea, I wanted to share this ‘lovely’ video as a sort of Valentine to you all (ok, no I don’t really want you all to die but watch it anyway). Did a ‘lil scooping on it and found it’s about someone who’s trying to learn the lesson that if you want to love someone, you still have to cope with that person. Love doesn’t come without a little hate, and if you can’t love someone at their worst, how can you call it sincere? The main character seems to be caught in a grey area between stabbing voodoo dolls and daydreaming about her special someone (wide grey area), all because they stole the precious thing: her heart. Random obligatory counting in foreign languages and also the ending is beautiful.

Ever like how when you’re playing a game, and someone decides to make up a crazy house-rule that helps them specifically? I do, especially when it’s me making it; it’s what I’m about to do right now. It’s even better when the rule is reciprocal, which is bonus. This will certainly help my case (because of my lack of post last week) and perhaps others in the future…

Any Zomgee author gets a “monthly gimmy day” to not post, if they want. This is reciprocal but not “rolloverable” so you can’t save up 4 months worth of gimmydays and use them for a whole month (slacker). So use them wisely; (hint, feel free to use them last day of one month and first day of another if you need it like that).

Fun ways to justify stuff. Also this gave E-puka a great idea: how about ‘guest writers?’ I would be cool for that, make someone else write for me. I will say that I did write this post myself, but we might be seeing an occasional non-zomgee writer post someting for the sake of everyone’s sanity. This Zomgee stuff is “srs bznz.” It’s kinda like will smith in Men in Black: “I make this look good!”. (hopefully this fits into the new HT-Zomgeeulous plan)

Speaking of games, you’re playing a new one right now!

Hey you there! Stop paying attention to anything but me because right now is my only chance to get everyones attention! Extra Extra, read all about it! An airplane crashes on American soil* baffling experts on how this could happen to our beloved and ever-perfect transportation system. Not only are we going to make this story seem like it is equal or more important than a terrorist attack, we wouldn’t dare giving you any gumption to change the channel.
(Epic Edit: Off Topic: Me skiing in pooh suit.)

Okay, now that you’re actually reading: It’s cool to see this turn out so well. It’s also a great time to find out how worthless news stations are concerning delivering news as it truely is. I don’t want to know if you think you know what jet fuel smells like or that jets are really just boats with wings on them, because you’re wrong. (I’m callin’ you out Blitzer)

We were able to extract from news network’s blatherings that everyone involved did the best in the situation, came out safely with only some minor injuries and conditions and went on their merry way. This is good comeupance considering a throwback event in ’82 involving a similar state of affairs with an unfortunate outcome.

Air Florida Flight 90 had the some of the same stuff going on only had icing problems compounding. Seems they were aiming for the Patomac to land (or water?) just like with US Airways Flight 1549 and the Hudson only to hit a bridge along the way. This leads our story to Mr. Martin Lenny Skutnik III who happened to pass by and jump into the frigid January river to help someone who lost their grip on safety. Fortunately, they both escaped with their lives in lieu of Lenny’s bravery to join the few survivors.

Apparently, becoming a “Skutnik” has since become a coined term for heroism and disregard for ones saftey to assure another person’s safety. Top that off with a metal or two along with a seat in the “President’s box” during the State of the Union address. The name Skutnik also refers in cases to the ‘special guest’ in the State of the Union address. Not sure if I would have become aware of this without Thursday’s events, but either way, it is sobering to know nothing is for certain, life is finite and our Hope isn’t within our own hands.

(*so can you really call it “landing a plane” when its in a river? And shouldn’t we say “American waters” instead of soil?)

I wanted to try not posting about what I got for Christmas again, but for some reason this ‘gift’ had to be noted. This gift was given via snail-mail and internets to Superstretch, HT and I from the illustrious (or illustrationous) Zepuka. Let me start with a disclaimer to HT as it is unconfirmed if he has received this gift also in the mail. (CTRL+W out if you haven’t gotten it yet.) Without further deliberation…

Hilarious, no? Everyone likes subtleties: especially when they’re difficult to pick out and very especially when it pertains to you and fellow zomgees. I’ll probably not catch them all but here’s a go.

Frame 1:

Red shirt (my fav color)

“Do a Barrel Roll” on shirt (my fav meme)

HT’s skin (Oh, that’s a shirt)

Frame 2:

Poof (onomatopoeia; significance?)

Flat-top hair on future HT (vanilla ice?)

visor (Star Trek TNG?)

Nervously confused giant sweat droplets (manga iconography everywhere)

Ta-Da (windows 95 sound?)

Frame 3:

great back-shot of the mini-ears

Oi VEY! (proof Yiddish still exists in the future)

(but even if it was, wouldn’t they travel to a time where it’d be fix more optimally?)

Frame 6:

OhYo is not Zordon

Ahhhh! (from this)

Finally unveiling what’s on SS’s shirt

Frame 7

Not picking up phone inside joke (I’ve not been informed I suppose)

SS is still a midget/hobbit, lol.

Frame 8

Not sure who’s supposed to be rescuing me, FutureHT seems to be bailing.

Gifts in green bags might help. Can’t get enough of *Whack*

Frame 9

Glad I have at least a little of something to drink when I come to

Not sure if this thing is a conveyor belt taking me to my doom or something

Dig the visors, but I can’t be too eager to find out what’s brainwashing me

“I know that laugh”

I’m sure I’m missing a lot; considering other hints were given by our venerable artist; any help from the peanut gallery? One hint given was something about how the colors used were pretty much important in every case. By the way, we’re famous, we’re cartoons.

…to be reminded that people still hate others any day of the year. Any problem can be traced to pride, but while dealing with roots running too deep in our sinful nature, pride can lead in so many directions, especially when coupled with ignorance. If you haven’t seen this story already, it can be shocking:

Santa-Suit gunman’s rampage leaves 9 dead

I haven’t had a ‘warm and fuzzy feeling’ along with the Christmas season for a while. It’s hard to say ‘this season is to remember Jesus’ birth’ especially when there’s so many other days of the year to do it. This should at the very least be a good reminder that if someone who “had no criminal record and no history of violence” can hate so much on a day of jolly and mirth is more sound and devoted to an evil cause that we can to our own causes on any day. People seem like they’ve ‘tried love’ or are bored with it, but they’re begging for it, even when they push it away. Love more and things might turn out better than you expected.
