Project: Carputer – Part 3

by on Aug.04, 2008, under Carputer

Spent the past few days putting way too much time and effort into the desk. I’ll spare you the nitty-gritty right now and just pass on a picture and some details.

As you can see, I have the monitor in and set to go. After countless hours, I finally found a feasible way to mount the drives in the console. I cleaned it up a bit and filed down some rough edges. All I have left to do is the body work, ventilation, and hooking up the computer.

Speaking of computer, I have it all built and set to go. Here are the specs.

  • Antec Three Hundred case
  • AMD 6000+ 3.0 ghz dual core processor
  • 650W 3-rail power supply
  • ATI HD4870 video card
  • 500GB hard drive
  • 4GB RAM (2x2GB)
  • 2 DVD RW drives
  • Super multi drive (card reader, eSATA, fan controls, USB ports)
  • Fan controller
  • 17″ Dell widescreen monitor

That’s all for now. Keep on going with the photoshopping contest!

Project: Carputer – Part 2

by on Jul.23, 2008, under Carputer

So OhYo and I just got back in from working for a couple hours on the new carputer.. Its coming along. I sure took a lot of flak from both he and my dad about how I did things… But that’s how they are, what can I say?

Below are a few pics of how it looks and a quick (30 min) Google Sketchup render of what I’m thinking.

Project: Carputer – Part 1

by on Jul.17, 2008, under Carputer, Cool Sites, Wheels

For the past couple months, I’ve been developing a project in my mind. It all started with a conversation I was having with a coworker about computer desks. I decided that I’d like one similar to this: the V1 Chair. Since they were silly enough to post practically blueprints on their website, I thought it’d be great to build. I did some research and the price for the metal would have been around $200 for steel, $300 for aluminum. I wanted the steel so that I’d have an excuse to play with the welder, but other opportunities arose. (continue reading…)

Movie Review: Hancock

by on Jul.05, 2008, under Movies & Music

Hancock. Now this was a movie I’ve been waiting to see. I have to admit that I wanted to see this more than Indiana Jones. More than Hulk and The Happening too.

I figured that I’d be disappointed by this movie, but I could hope for the best, at least. I try not to read too much about movies before they come out (other that the MPAA rating and such) just so when a movie is nothing like the few previews I saw of it, I’ll be surprised.

That’s exactly the case in this movie. I went in thinking it’d be a comedy where Will Smith starts out a super hero bum and turns into a Men In Black agent-esque crime fighting champion. A black comedy meets Spiderman perhaps. Of course, when you think about it that way, it doesn’t sound like a great movie.

I don’t want to give anything away about the storyline, but if you’re looking for the Will Smith comedy routine, you’ll get a bit of it, but so much more. (continue reading…)

Movie Review: The Happening

by on Jun.20, 2008, under Movies & Music

Last weekend, I had the chance to go see The Happening. My thought was that it would be a typical, suspenseful, yet profound movie from M. Night; however, it was hardly those things. (continue reading…)
