Interesting very interesting...Now if you could turn Santa into a Flobbit that resembles an asparagus, I might be persuaded to believe....
As for those types of gifts I think Laura could handle that I saw your wedding presents and she got some of those household things which if I remember correctly she loves very much! Oh and I gave her the Turkey thingy that my mom gave me and she loved that too. I think I'll just make a habit of sending you guys stuff on my birthday...LOL!

You must remember though Laura that the gifts Hobbits tended to give were just random things around the house that they didn't use or need anymore. I don't know if you would have wanted to receive that type of gift from your family.

I think I like the idea of Santa now... Maybe when I have children I'll tell them a little myth about a Hobbit named Santa who gives gifts on his birthday. Speaking of which.... I like the idea of giving gifts on your birthday. I had six people in my family... that would mean that I would've gotten gifts FIVE TIMES A YEAR! ...... I'll have to look into this. ~

Also the Harfoots were the only race of Hobbits that were specifically called "bootless."

Very clever. And don't forget about Tolkien's Father Christmas letters. :)

@Gill: You know, Bilbo actually wore boots during part of his journeys in The Hobbit. Hobbits didn't *always* go boot- or shoeless, just usually. ;)

But weren't Tolkien and Lewis friends? You'd think they would have a similar view of santa then... >_>

Otherwise I am greatly convinced by your argument; quite well made. I'd have to agree with Gill on this one, anyone who can take an optical mouse and trace that back to LOTR can also take Santa or anything else to it too... xD Everything but the kitchen sink.

Gill:
In the poem - "He was dress'd all in fur, from his head to his foot." There is no mention of boots there, and actually it is possible that the fur on his feet was his on hair. This is a point I should have made actually as it is more evidence even still.

OhYo:
Perhaps they are different people perhaps they are the same. Father Christmas in Narnia seems to conform more to the more modern version of Santa we now hold to (if I remember correctly). Perhaps once again as stories are told figures in them change slightly leading to the version in Narnia.

Wow...I'm amazed at how with you, EVERYTHING can be traced to LOTR somehow... Question: why does Santa wear boots? Shouldn't his feet be bare? Hmm....
